My Design & Branding Process

The design process.png

I always get asked asked the question...'what is your design process when working on projects'?...

Every designer/agency will have a different approach when it comes to working on design projects, but I thought It would be useful to share my process, and give people an insight of how I typically work on various branding/design projects on a day to day basis.

The first step for every project, is to discuss the design brief. If you don't have one written up, don't worry, as we can have a chat and put one together. I'm also going to write a blog post on this subject over the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for this...

The second stage, after we have discussed the project deliverables/brief, is the research phase. This is a very important part of the design process, as this will define the direction of the branding process. This generally comprises of researching into main competitors, target audience/market and also putting together visuals and mood boards for inspiration.

Once the design direction has been established, the design concept stage can begin. This is when the fun begins, and ideas start to come to life. I generally start this process the good old fashioned way, by sketching out any ideas on paper. Once I have a few concepts together, I then start to put the digital designs together.

I normally design around three different concepts to begin with, I also include both black and white and colour variations. This sometimes helps to bring the designs to life, and gives a good idea of how the brand identity will look and feel.

The next stage is to refine, and develop any concepts.
This is also when any context/format is considered, if the identity design is for digital and print, this is when any mockups, prototyping and printed proofs will take place.

Signed and delivered. Once the final design has been established and signed off, the final artwork/print will be sent over and delivered in all relevant formats.

That's it simple. Your now ready to launch your new brand into the big, wild world.

I hope you enjoyed the read, and found the insight into my design process useful.

It's been a busy one...

It's been a busy one...

It's been a busy year, and I thought I would take the opportunity to update my site with a few new projects, and reflect back on some of the stuff I've been up to.

Its always great to work on projects with brands in a sector that you have an interest in, personally, I always love working with independent and innovative startups, who are passionate, and want to stand out, and do something different.

It's so easy to do something similar to everyone else these days, as so many sectors are so overly saturated, and so many brands out there are doing a similar thing, so It's always very refreshing when you come across a certain brand who want to stand out, and disrupt that particular sector.

I have been collaborating on branding projects, for a number of startups this year, in an industry, that is really thriving at the moment, the food and drink industry...

From nano craft breweries to innovative health food brands. It really is an exciting time for the industry, and I have been lucky enough to work with a handful of these type of brands this year, who all share the same passion and vision.

I've been working with a new Indian streetfood/craft beer brand, an exciting new hemp herbal tea brand, and most recently, a new Leeds based craft brewery, just to name a few.

Another exciting industry is the tech industry. It seems startups, go from strength to strength each year, with numerous innovative brands popping up all the time, and I've had the opportunity to work with quite a few of these companies
this year.

It has been a great year, and it has been a real pleasure to collaborate with some really nice people, on some pretty
cool projects...

Keep your eyes peeled, as I will be updating my site with some of these new projects in the new Year.

Have a good one!

A new blog...

A new blog...

It's been a long time coming...but I've finally got around to writing my very first blog post, hopefully the first of many!...

I've been very busy over the last few months, working on client projects, as well as personal stuff, including a new website for my collaborative design agency which I'm starting up, and also a new series of prints-inspired by the outdoors...

I've also had the pleasure of working on some great projects recently for a number of start up companies, and also a number of established national brands. I'm currently in the process of updating the website with a few of these projects over the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for these!.

I've been meaning to start a blog for some time now, focusing on design inspiration and also tips and resources from inspiring designers and design agencies.

I will also be posting highlights of interesting projects that I have been working on, and also any updates on collaborative and side projects that I am also involved with...

I'm always on the lookout for interesting projects and collaborations, to work on, so If you have anything in mind, then please feel free to drop me a line:

Keep your eyes peeled for my new project updates over the next few weeks!...
