Packaging Design
Packaging design for artisan perfume start-up Abbey Perfumery
Packaging Design
Abbey Perfumery - is an artisan perfume brand based in Sheffield, Yorkshire. The company got in touch, as they were looking for a local freelance graphic designer and packaging designer to help with their brand re-fresh. They required help with their brand identity, and packaging design. I worked on the brand strategy/brand mood-board to start with, and then I created the logo design, colour palette, and brand mark/icon design. We then worked on the packaging label designs, to produce a strong, and simplistic brand for the Yorkshire based company.

Perfume & Fragrance Branding Design UK
Branding and packaging design within the fragrance and beauty sector needs to balance several important elements:
• Premium and elegant positioning
• Strong visual simplicity
• Clear brand storytelling
• Distinctive shelf presence
• Consistency across product ranges
For Abbey Perfumery, the goal was to create a minimal and refined identity that reflected the artisanal nature of the brand while maintaining a modern and commercial appeal.
The packaging system also needed to work across multiple product formats while preserving a consistent and recognisable visual language.
THE CHALLENGE
The main challenge was creating a fragrance brand identity that felt premium and handcrafted without becoming overly decorative or complex.
Many perfume brands rely on ornate or highly stylised visuals, making it difficult to achieve clarity and modern simplicity.
The objective was to develop a more minimal and geometric brand system that communicated quality and craftsmanship through restraint rather than decoration.
THE SOLUTION
We began with brand positioning, moodboarding, and visual research to define the creative direction.
From there, I developed:
• Logo design and refinement
• Brand identity system
• Icon and geometric mark design
• Packaging label design
• Colour palette development
• Typography selection
The final design system creates a calm, minimal, and refined visual identity that supports the artisan positioning of the brand.
THE OUTCOME
The result is a cohesive packaging design and branding system that positions Abbey Perfumery as a modern artisan fragrance brand with strong premium appeal.
The refined identity improves brand recognition and creates a more consistent and elevated presence across packaging and marketing materials.
The system is flexible enough to support future fragrance lines while maintaining visual consistency.
